MATV (Malden’s Media Center), in collaboration with the Arlington International Film Festival, presents “Film Shorts” – Screening & Discussion Thursday, February 13, 2020, 7-9pm Enjoy a diverse selection of short films by local filmmakers, each followed by a discussion with the producer. The event is free but please register in advance.  Imagining Future Cities by Shuyi Wang What will cities be like in 50 years? Will traffic jams and pollution still be an issue? Researchers in the City Science group at the MIT Media Lab is trying to piece together the landscape of future urban life by rethinking the functions of our cities. Class of 84 (Animated film by Alex Salsberg, Joe Andrade) Teenager Mike feels smothered by his overprotective mom’s extensive safety rules, until he uncovers a horrifying curse that puts her in immediate danger. With the help of a mysterious shut-in named Robbie Zygowski (voiced by Dr. Katz’s Jonathan Katz), Mike must decide whether or not he can break his mother’s rules to save her life. Coffee with David Moore by Daniel Black A documentary on the artist David Moore as he struggles with his urge to make things. The film captures his evolution of his abstract painting style as he recovers from a severe car accident. Jesseca Ferguson: Cabinet of Curiosity by Roberto Mighty A biographical profile of renowned artist and photographer Jesseca Ferguson who works with photographs and collaged “photo objects”. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and Europe. Charles Coe: Man of Letters by Roberto Mighty A profile of writer and musician Charles Coe, author of two books on poetry: “All Sins Forgiven: Poems for my Parents” and “Picnic on the Moon” both published by anthologies, including Poesis, The Mom Egg, Solstice Literary Review and Urban Nature. His novella “Spin Cycles” was published in November, 2014 by Gemma Media. Charles is in a labor union for freelance writers. REGISTER FOR “FILM SHORTS”
