Come discover and discuss “Who is Malden?” at local film screenings

Though Malden is a place, one can ask “who it is” as if it breathes and has a story.
This is the idea behind the prompt that 23 members of Malden’s community have been exploring together as they participate in the Filmbuilding Malden: Our City in Motion program taking place this summer. As part of their collaborative filmmaking process, the five groups of filmbuilders will share their films with the public at a series of four film screening events taking place this fall on September 23, October 7, 14, and 28.
The first screening, Voices of Malden, will be held at 7:00 PM Saturday, September 23, at City Hall, 215 Pleasant St. The screening of two short films with discussion will include a dessert reception on the City Hall Balcony and a tour of artwork by Rosene Wine, Grace Julian Murthy and other Gallery@57 artists. The event is free but requires registration.
Dates for the other screening events are as follows:
- Nature and Wellness – Saturday, October 7, 6:30 to 8 pm – Lincoln Commons, Cross Street (rain location, Senior/Teen Center) (Group 5 film)
- Place and Identity – Saturday, October 14, 6:00 to 8:30 pm – Wilbur Fiske Haven House (home of Mystic Side Opera Company), 339 Pleasant Street (Group 3 and 4 films)
- Who is Malden Program and Film highlights with panel discussion – Saturday, October 28, 3:00 to 5:00 pm – Jenkins Auditorium, 77 Salem Street.
The Filmbuilding Malden program is funded by the City of Malden as part of an ARPA grant. The screenings will be partially funded by contributions from businesses, organizations, and individuals.
