Thanks to the generous hospitality of St. Paul’s Parish, the Episcopal Church in Malden (26 Washington St., Malden), an area along St. Paul’s lawn will be available for fun, creative activities for kids, families, and youth during the August 7 Summer Festivals 2021 (Kidzone). The Kidzone activities begin 12pm and end at 5pm.Â

Catching Malden's Dreams
12:00-4:00 pm | All ages
Karyn Alzayer lends her public art project, inaugurated in 2018 at an Arts Matters Day in Malden, inviting residents to choose a colorful strip of fabric, make a wish, write their wish on the fabric, dip their fabric strip in the magical wishing well, and tie it on the giant bug catcher net (redesigned to be a catcher of dreams) along with other residents’ dreams for their city.
Book Swap
12:00-4:00pm | Early readers to grade 6
Leave a book, take a book--or two! Need something to read for the rest of the summer? Select a gently used book or two and leave one you're finished with for someone else. Choose from picture books to early readers to chapter books! Books will be available until we run out or at 4pm.
Geared toward early readers (picture books) to chapter books for up to grade 6 (4 years to 12 years old). Special thanks to Lisa L. Sears for coordinating and Malden Public Library for donating books.
Kids craft activities

Facilitated by Avion Manong, artist and educator, kids will have the opportunity to create masks and other craft items.
Face and body painting
12:00-5:00 pm | Age 5-13
Face and bodypainting by Sandra Woodring. Sandra will provide designs and pictures from participants to choose from. Hand, arm, and face painting available- location dependent on parents and children's choice.
Story time, arts & crafts, and yoga & movement
12:30-1:15pm & 2:30-3:15 pm | Age 3-8
Facilitated by Linda Zalk and Elena Martinez (https://artfortdesignstudio.com), children will have the opportunity to enjoy stories and poetry with related arts & crafts activities and yoga & movement.
Origami for kids
2:30-3:30 pm | Age 7-13
Facilitated by water color illustrator/painter from Japan Chie Yesuda, also an art instructor for M.A.P.., Music, Art, and Programming, this activity invites kids to create origami airplanes and other figures.
Photo & story booth for children of the world book project
1:00-2:30pm & 3:30-4:30pm | Age 6-7
Parents of children ages 6 to 7 are invited to bring their child to the Kids' Zone (steps of St. Paul's) to have a photo taken and share their interests and a story of coming to Malden. Some photos may be selected to be used for inspiration by artist Chie Yasuda for her grant-funded illustrated book of kids in Malden project- representing the diverse ethnic mix of families in Malden. Photos will be emailed to parents. Media Permission forms (available at the booth) must be signed by parent/guardian. This book project is funded by the Malden Cultural Council in part and will be made available upon completion to the community through various channels.
U CAN - A creative confidence building workshop
3:15-3:45 pm | Age 12-16 age
Facilitated by dancer/educator Taylor Cocco, U CAN is a creative, educational workshop providing youth with a safe space to explore their inner strength and confidence, opening them up to new and positive perspectives while teaching attainable ways to improve their mindset and be the best version of themselves.
Music making workshop for kids

Music teacher (and musician) Mr. Devin (Ulibarri) of MAP, will show you how to make a rhythm with your body.
Guitar Music

Devin Ulibarri performs music with students from MAP Family Learning Center.
