Malden Reads Stargazing
October 5 @ 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm EDT
Event Navigation
Malden Reads: One City, One Book, in collaboration with Malden’s Ward 4 City Councillor Ryan O’Malley, presents the sixth (somewhat) annual “Sunset, Storytelling and Stargazing” event.
Details and to RSVP
What to Expect:
The community is invited to the top of Waitt’s Mount Park in Malden to watch the sunset; hear poetry, music and storytelling; and gaze at the stars with the help of the North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club (NSAAC), the Amateur Telescope Makers of Boston (ATMoB), and #popscope.
A storytime and activity for children and families will begin at 6:15 pm, as the sun starts to set. Poetry, music and stories for adults (but with consideration for all ages) will begin at 8:00pm, hosted by Malden’s poet laureate CD Collins.
Stargazing will begin after twilight, around 7:00 pm. Several telescopes will be set up for viewing, with the club astronomers serving as guides to the night sky.
What to Bring:
A snack (or picnic dinner), water bottle, bug spray, sturdy footwear, a blanket to sit on, and your sense of adventure! This is an alcohol and drug free event.
Getting there and Parking:
Parking at Waitt’s Mount Park is very limited and will be reserved for the astronomers and disability access. Walking or biking is encouraged. If you drive, you can park your car at the Spadafora Funeral Home parking lot or at the Early Learning Center parking lot and either walk the (short) rest of the way or take one of our shuttle vans that will be provided. Leave plenty of time to get there!
Weather Consideration:
In case of inclement weather (or skies that are too cloudy for viewing), the event will unfortunately be cancelled. Updated information will be posted at maldenreads.org website and on Malden Reads social media. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram. We will also post a same-day notice on this Eventbrite posting.
