With the Executive Director and Board President of Urban Media Arts by his side, Mayor Gary Christenson proclaimed October 20, 2022 to be Community Media Day in Malden! This proclamation invites everyone in the community to take time every October 20th to celebrate the vital role accessible media and free speech play in ensuring that everyone in Malden has a voice. It acknowledges that Urban Media Arts (UMA) is all about community media by its commitment to encouraging conversations about our common interests, increasing discourse around policy issues, fostering understanding of local cultures, and sharing information to improve our lives.

Community Media Day will always fall on October 20, also in line with Free Speech Week, taking place the third full week of October annually.
