About Neighborhood View:

Neighborhood View started in 2011 as a project of Urban Media Arts in Malden, the city’s community media arts center. The program outreaches and trains local citizens to report on news stories happening in their communities and helps them to become more engaged citizens in the process. It also relies on the work of student journalists that intern at UMA from the area’s colleges and universities.

Neighborhood View was recently accepted as a member of the Institute for Nonprofit News (INN) a national organization that networks local journalism initiatives in cities and towns across the country to help support a declining landscape of local journalism, which is essential to civic engagement and democracy. INN members are extensively vetted to ensure they fit INN’s guidelines for journalistic integrity and excellence.
