Development Specialist – filled

Job Title: Development Specialist
Reports To: Executive Director
Status: Part-Time, 20 hours per week
Compensation: $23-$25 hourly, depending on experience

The Opportunity

Working closely with the Executive Director, Board, and other staff, the Development Specialist will support the creation and execution of the annual fundraising plan, setting and meeting target goals for sponsorships and partnerships, grants, individual donations, memberships, and events.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of fundraising strategies and initiatives
  • Cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and sponsors as part of Major Gifts program
  • Develop local business partnership program 
  • Research and identify potential grant funding sources and prepare grant proposals that persuasively communicate UMA’s mission, programs, and impact; manage grants calendar to ensure UMA remains on schedule for all grant submission deadlines
  • Work with department directors to recognize areas of need and identify funding sources for those programs
  • Develop and implement a donor database; maintain accuracy and integrity of donor-related data 
  • Manage donor communications, ensuring timely donor acknowledgements and appropriate donor recognition
  • Develop and foster community relationships
  • Plan annual gala event
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of nonprofit development/fundraising experience, preferably with experience in major gift fundraising and Development Plan creation and execution 
  • Ability to initiate, foster and grow relationships with individuals and organizations
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others, including staff and Board members

Work Environment and Benefits

This position will be one of nine staff members who work together with a small group of contractors and interns to carry out our mission. UMA offers paid vacation and sick benefits for part-time employees after 90 days and offers a flexible, hybrid working environment. 

Over time, this this may shift to a full-time role.

Urban Media Arts (“UMA,” formerly known as MATV), is a nonprofit community media organization established in 1988.
