Courageous Poetry:  A writing workshop with Malden’s Poet Laureate CD Collins

May 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm EDT

A four-part poetry workshop with Malden’s Poet Laureate, CD Collins. The workshop dates are: Tuesdays, April 2, 9, 16, and 30 all 7:00 to 8:30pm by Zoom.

“Poetry is the liquid voice that can wear through stone.” Adrienne Rich

Urban Media Arts is pleased to present another workshop experience by acclaimed author, poet, spoken-word performance artist, and instructor CD Collins, who is now also Malden’s Inaugural (and current) Poet Laureate.

Poetry is a natural place to turn during times of disruption and change; it can build a bridge to the inexpressible. The sharing of personal stories, through art forms such as poetry, allows us to realize our common humanity, experience meaningful connection, and build community.

Whether you are experienced in writing poetry or a complete newcomer to the craft, you will feel welcome in this 4-part workshop, held virtually via Zoom. The class will feature in-class writing exercises, learning the craft of writing and the art of revising. There will also be a chance for class participants to perform their poetry publicly after the workshop.

Participants must commit to attending all four sessions. This class welcomes participants of differing abilities, language expressions and backgrounds. Please email the coordinator if you need additional support. We will work to find ways to include everyone who desires to take the class.

This class is free for UMA members. $25 for non-members.

This class is supported by a grant from the Malden Cultural Council, a local agency, supported through the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Email questions about this class to Anne at anne@umaverse.org.
