UMAverse Stories

On this year’s #GivingTuesday, we launch our UMAverse Stories Campaign, an end-of-year giving campaign that invites the community to preserve this vital community resource and grow our impact. Our goal is to generate $5000 so we can implement exciting new programs for the coming year.

UMA (formerly MATV) is known historically for our media coverage of government, school, and community events, and teaching community members to create media. As the technological landscape has changed over the years, we have expanded beyond cable TV to include citizen journalism, podcasting, youth initiatives, and arts & cultural offerings. With decades of experience, UMA provides rigorous outreach to all the communities in our city, continued sharing of news and happenings, and opportunities to empower and co-create a vibrant and livable city. We offer a broad palette of media platforms, thoughtful outreach, and a skilled, creative and resourceful staff.

UMA is a resource that BELONGS to the community. It is up to those who value what we provide to help keep it going. Cable revenues, which have traditionally sustained our organization, continue to significantly decrease as community members “cut the cord” or bypass cable TV entirely. Therefore, we must rely on alternative sources of funding, including donations from community members.

We invite you to be part of being good stewards of these resources – to preserve, build upon and improve the programs that serve you and your neighbors effectively:

  • Media coverage for government, school and community
  • Educational workshop opportunities
  • Neighborhood View – citizen journalism
  • Gallery UMA – featuring local artists and exhibitions
  • Malden Reads – collaborative, community-building program for 14 years
  • Podcasting
  • Video Production
  • MATV Cable channels
  • Digital Storytelling
  • Internships and Youth Development
  • Community events

To further underscore our impact, we offer a series of stories from the UMA community (aka UMAverse) that we will share throughout the remainder of this year. These stories illustrate how all of YOU (the Malden community) are a part of UMA. If you have an UMA story of impact, please let us know.

And please, give generously with a financial donation that makes sense for you. THANK YOU for your consideration.
